Frugal Living for Dummies
by Deborah Taylor-Hough
One of my New Year's resolutions is to find new and workable ways to live a frugal lifestyle.
I found some useful tips in the book "Frugal Living for Dummies" by Deborah Taylor-Hough including the following:
1. Ways to eliminate debt
2. Hints for saving money at the grocery store
3. Suggestions for throwing a grand party on very little cash
4. Ways to look good on a budget
Overall, this book is a valuable tool for folks who are new to the concept of a frugal lifestyle.
However, it's a little too basic for those of us (such as myself) who were born under the coupon clipper star.

Frugal Indulgents: How to Cultivate Decadence when Your Age and Salary are Under 30
By Kera Bolonik and Jennifer Griffin
Copyright 1997, Henry Holt and Company, Inc.
I would like to preface this mini-review by saying that some of the information in this book is a bit dated.
However, there are still some great tips on furnishing your home and entertaining guests inexpensively. The glossary in the front of the book is filled with clever terms and definitions. Case studies, anecdotes and quizzes are interspersed throughout the book. But, after a couple of chapters these devices became a little repetitive. Check it out from the library before you decide to buy it.

Are you having problems finishing that essay, short story or proposal? Wrestling with a reluctant muse? Check out Anne Lamott’s self-help manual for writers entitled: Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life. This book contains great advice about the following topics: character development, dialogue and plot treatments. It starts off slowly, but it picks up midway through the book. Great book for weekend reading.

Occasions
by Kate Spade
Simon & Schuster Copyright 2004
Are you looking to add some glamour to your entertaining? If so, pick up a copy of Kate Spade's book "Occasions". This book is a brief survey of tips and suggestions for livening up ordinary get togethers. There isn't anything in "Occasions" that is particularly original or revolutionary. However, this book can still provide inspiration and guidance to those who are still at the beginning stages of entertaining.

Dark Nights of the Soul: A Guide to Finding Your Way Through Life’s Ordeals
By Thomas Moore
Copyright 2004, Gotham Books, a division of Penguin Group
The premise of Dark Nights of the Soul: A Guide to Finding Your Way Through Life’s Ordeals is that sometimes life can throw unexpected things in your path. Over time these events can force you to go through a period of darkness and self-examination. This process can take weeks, months or even years before you are able to get back to normal.
This book is a great tool for self-examination however, some of the chapters tended to drone on a bit.
Great airplane or waiting room book.
